I've been hearing a great sermon series lately from my favorite preacher. It is based on Proverbs 14:12 - There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
It's really had me thinking a lot ... here are some of my thoughts:
As Christians, we tend to go with the current ideas and philosophies of our culture, and give ourselves leeway in many areas. And a lot of them don't SEEM too bad, or blatantly sinful. Sometimes they seem to be the right thing to do, or the kind thing to say.
But what does God's Word say?
What does God require of us?
The Bible has very specific things to say about many areas that we deal with in our world today. It also has very specific things to say about our personal lives. It's not always easy to follow Him - sometimes it's the hardest thing to do - but as Christians, what other option do we have?
Micah 6:8 says: He has told you O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
To walk with God means we have to go down the same path that He is on. Which is given to us in His Word. We can't pick and choose the parts we like and the parts we don't like. I think that in this day and age we have become greatly desensitized to some very clear mandates from God because of what is going on around us that seems to be normal or acceptable.
I pray for myself, that I would desire holiness above people liking me, or being nice. And that it would be holiness that comes from God and His grace, not some pseudo-holiness that I manufacture myself.
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect." - Romans 12:2
